There are many different ways to style your hair. So here are some hair styles for people with short hair, long hair, and people with average length hair.For girls with short hair, if you don’t mind sitting in the beauty parlor for hours or if you want your hair to look longer, than you might consider getting hair extensions. Some types of extensions will help your hair to grow and look nice on you. Other hairstyles that a girl with short hair can wear are the S-curl or waves. If you have medium-length hair, you can do “Shirley Temple”-type curls, you can wear a flat twist or you can use a flat iron or hot comb to straighten your hair. For those of you who have really long hair, you can have your hair braided into a flat-twist crown or a corn-roll crown. If you like Mariah Carey’s look, and you have medium-length or long hair, you can try it yourself. It’s called the “Flip Curl.” On a bad hair day, you can put your hair into a ponytail and dress it up with some clips or put it in a bun. These tips should help you look your best.

Fresh Kicks for the Summer

Some new sneakers people are wearing this spring are the white and black Barkleys by Nike and Jordans (the newest colors and styles that come out). If you’re wearing the Jordans, the new ones to get are the 14s — of course any color. But of course you could be basic and look chill with black or white Uptowns (by Nike). But if you want to look “nice” wear the white and black Uptowns. You should also check out Adidas—we prefer the plain white, plain black, or black and white. Also check out any sneakers by K-Swiss. And don’t forget to match your sneakers with the right outfit.





The things you should wear with the black Barkleys are a black T-shirt with a pair of blue jeans. If you get them in white you could wear them with a white Tshirt with blue or black jeans (your choice). To wear with the black and white uptowns is a blue, black, grayish RocaWear outfit. With the Adidas sneakers (plain white), wear a white tee and black pants or a black tee with blue jeans (with black sneakers). Also look at k-Swisses this summer. Hope you are able to get some fresh kicks this summer and remember always match your sneakers with you’re newest, favorite clothes.

Do you want to know what’s hot and what’s not in New York? Try just looking around I.S. 49 for all the latest fashion trends. If people are wearing it in New York City, they’re wearing it in the halls at our school. Here’s OUR Top 5 list of Got to-haves in your closet.First of all, you MUST own a pair of suede boots, like the kind you find at Payless Shoes and Black Airwalk Boots, also found at Payless. Everyone is wearing them in black and beige.


The next fashion trend is a short-cut jacket. Wear it with a pair of jeans and a T-shirt underneath. You can find them at Old Navy in any color.Next on the list we have the dress Gauchos. If you wear them with a dress shirt and Knee-High boots you will really look good and will be rocking the STYLE!!!! You can find Gauchos at almost any clothes store in the Staten Island Mall.Finally, we have the really short skirts. You can rock them with them with just about anything from a simple blouse to some nice shoes or sneakers. You can also find this “fashion” at any clothing store.

From issue 4 summer 2006Summer is here! Are you saying to yourself, “What should I wear” or “Which out-fit is hot to wear in school?” Well, read below and see what will make you look HOT while the weather is HOT.

First, check out the old-fashioned pom-pom shorts. You can top them with a cute tank-top or some hot sneakers. Look for them in stores like JcPenney and Old Navy. Then, the “Back-in-the-Day” halter top. You can rock it with jean capris and the pompom shorts. Also, there are the Chinese slippers and the Japanese shoes that come in every color. You can match every outfit for the WHOLE SUMMER!! You can find these items at most stores, including JCPenny, Macy’s, Old Navy, Rave Girl, Against All Odds, and Mandees. For shoes, like the Chinese slippers, check out the 99cent store and at storefronts in ChinaTown. Most importantly, have fun looking good!

Shoes! Shoes! Shoes!

Everybody knows that they love shoes. Girls love them! Some people even collect shoes of a certain brand. If you want to be in style with the new kicks, read this article.


The latest shoes out there are the Air Jordan 1’s in red and black or in black and yellow. For boys they cost about $70 and for men they cost $345. Another pair of fresh kicks is the 3’s in red and white or the Air Jordan 3’s in blue and white. For kids they are $86 and for men they are $215. Other nice sneakers for sale are the Nike Uptowns in all black or in all white. Also the new Nike Dunks and Air Maxes are out.


In a few months, the new all black Air Jordan 3’s are coming out and the Air Jordan 8’s in white, gray and orange. The 8’s are also coming out in black and aqua blue.


I think Air Jordans are the best shoes out there. My favorites are the Air Jordan 5’s in red, white and black and the Nike Dunks in red and white. I usually spend $200-$400 on sneakers every month.


I asked some people about their shoes. Jackie of Class 620 said her favorite show brand is Air Jordan because they’re hot and stylish. Etlin of 620 thinks that people should wear Jordans now because they are the stylish shoes of 2007.

Some people think that I.S 49 is an ok Junior high school. But the kids at 49 think it’s a great school. The latest fashion at 49 is,
Skinny jeans, Colorful sneakers, Beaded necklaces, and etc. Here are some top 10 fashion tips from 49 students.

1) the most popular thing students wear at I.S 49 are skinny jeans. Skinny jeans were very popular back then and still popular today. The students wear skinny jeans with nice slender boots, or with a dress shirt, that gives the effect of someone’s long luscious legs.

2) Another popular thing at 49 is the sneakers. Sneakers are very fashionable. Many kids wear dunks, Nikes and more. Those sneakers give the effect of the kid’s neon colored shirts and more.

3) Cell phones are a very trendy thing at 49. SIDEKICKS, IPHONE, ETC. TO be able to have nice sneakers nice jeans and colorful shirts, you have to have the new thing around, cell phones. IN order to look nice and reasonable, we all need cell phones just to make it the right fit.

4) Necklaces and beaded bracelets are the new hit right now. To have the finishing touches on a perfect matching outfit you need some accessories. Beaded necklaces and hoped earring brings out the best in someone’s personality.

5) Sunglasses. Some students/ teachers wear fashionable dolce and cabbana glasses or some people just use plain 99c store sunglasses. But it doesn’t matter if the glasses are cheap or not. What really matters is, does it fit your face right, does it break easily, or does it just make you look like a bug. Some kids have the face for certain glasses, and others don’t. THAT’S LIFE. But the real way to wear glasses is to have every thing looking nice. jeans, boots, sneakers, and accessories. Then to the very end, BAMM! The sunglasses make you look totally hot.

6) Leggings. Leggings are apart of the fall thing. When students just want to be lay back and not really in that mood for playing dress up, they usually just slip on pair of leggings and a very lose shirt to make it into a beautiful scenery so that everyone still likes what she wears.

7) BOOTS. Boots are the winter thing for students or teachers.
Kids normally wear boots when it’s like totally cold or what’s in the new fashion magazine.

8) Nails. Nails are girl’s best things to talk about. Every girl likes getting tips or getting there nails done. A nail gives the effect of the girls perfect and neat nail buds. Students normally wear nails for special occasions or just like getting pampered at the nail salon.

9) Hair. I personally know at 49, Students and teachers love to get their hair done. Getting your hair done makes you feel good and excited about your new look. This effect will definitely be the finishing touches on someone. To look over the top, that priority has to be done.

10) The last and not the least thing that makes you look fabulous, is having a nice fragrance or lotion, so when you are wearing your beautiful clothes, you don’t stink like a pack mule.

Extreme Makeover Home Edition: September 11

On a recent night, I saw “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” and boy, was it good. It was a tribute to 9/11 and the crew remodeled a soldier’s home. This soldier saved two police officers in 9/11. The police officers were stuck in the rubble. One was stuck in it for 19 hours, one for 22 hours; It was tragic. Extreme Makeover (in case you don’t watch it) remodels people’s homes and changes their lives. But not just any people, they help people in need. Well, this soldier’s life was risked plenty of times. Hence when they were making a very heavy wooden flag for the dining room, one of the workers was working on the edge of the flag, and needed to take off the safety guard to the machinery. What he didn’t realize was his hand was in the way of the machine. His hand was seriously injured and his palm was scarred. He had to go to the emergency room, and he needed to go into surgery.Two hours later, he was allowed visits and the host of the show, Ty Pennington, came. When he was walking into the room, he stated, “This has never happened on Extreme Makeover Home Edition.” He gave the worker a laptop computer to see the family experience their new house.They finished the home in time for Christmas. Cool huh? An early Christmas present. The worker saw them in their new house, thanks to the computer, and they loved it. This really was an experience that I will never forget. The worker also stated that the flag was “all that stood for 9/11 and all the people that survived and the unlucky ones.”
