Extreme Makeover Home Edition: September 11

By Tiffany Nicole Vasquez

On a recent night, I saw “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” and boy, was it good. It was a tribute to 9/11 and the crew remodeled a soldier’s home. This soldier saved two police officers in 9/11. The police officers were stuck in the rubble. One was stuck in it for 19 hours, one for 22 hours; It was tragic. Extreme Makeover (in case you don’t watch it) remodels people’s homes and changes their lives. But not just any people, they help people in need. Well, this soldier’s life was risked plenty of times. Hence when they were making a very heavy wooden flag for the dining room, one of the workers was working on the edge of the flag, and needed to take off the safety guard to the machinery. What he didn’t realize was his hand was in the way of the machine. His hand was seriously injured and his palm was scarred. He had to go to the emergency room, and he needed to go into surgery. Two hours later, he was allowed visits and the host of the show, Ty Pennington, came. When he was walking into the room, he stated, “This has never happened on Extreme Makeover Home Edition.” He gave the worker a laptop computer to see the family experience their new house. They finished the home in time for Christmas. Cool huh? An early Christmas present. The worker saw them in their new house, thanks to the computer, and they loved it. This really was an experience that I will never forget. The worker also stated that the flag was “all that stood for 9/11 and all the people that survived and the unlucky ones.”
