Say Goodbye to Sanjaya Malakar

By Sindi Kafazi and Sarah Novak

Everyone must know who Sanjaya Malakar is. He is what all “American Idol” fans basically have talked about this entire season. The seventeen year-old Indian-American contestant is from Federal Way, Washington, and he auditioned in Seattle, Washington. Sanjaya was voted off on April 18th — but not before making millions of fans, including celebrities like Jennifer Lopez.Sanjaya and his sister both auditioned and lucky for them they were able to both make it. Unfortunately, his sister was eliminated in the Room Elimination process. Sanjaya still remained. Everyone on American Idol knows Sanjaya as the person who styles his hair different ways every week. He had it in an “afro,” curly hair, long hair and any other way you can imagine.

Even though he had been in the “Bottom 2” a couple of times, he was still able to make it through. People say that they want him to leave because they didn’t like his singing, and others wanted him to stay because they enjoyed his performances. Many people think he isn’t that talented. We think that on some of his performances he was able to shine but on others he didn’t. As you can see he was picked by America enough times to make it through, at least for a while. The downfall for Sanjaya occurred on April 17, when Phil Stacey started off the performances with Keith Urban’s “Where the Blacktop Ends.” After Jordin Sparks’ performance with, “A Broken Wing,’’ came Sanjaya, singing Bonnie Raitt’s “Something to Talk About.” Martina McBride says that Sanjaya sounds better when he sings louder, but it certainly was not his worst performance. It was time to reveal the bottom three. This is the time when, the group is split into two groups of three, and one person chooses which group is the bottom three. We think that the judges really went rough on Sanjaya, because he did a pretty good job for a seventeen-year-old. It takes guts to go through the whole process of auditioning and performing each week. It also takes guts to think about how you can embarrass yourself and after all the thought you actually try out for American Idol. Sanjaya is probably proud of himself even though he did not make it.

Sanjaya got the experience of a lifetime and everyone will recognize him because he became famous during the process that got him there. Say goodbye to the guy who attracted many fans---to the surprise of many!
